What’s up in Barcelona during October?
October has come and therewith Barcelona’s hot summer months have been survived! The tenth month of the year is actually a perfect time to spend some time in the wonderful capital of Catalonia – enjoyable weather with an average temperature of 20 degrees, less visitors and when you are lucky you will find discount prices as the touristic high season is slowly declining. In addition, Barcelona has still a huge variety of activities to offer, ranging from music festivals over sports events to food fiestas.
Right in the beginning of October, the SWAB art fair invites everybody who is interested in and enthusiastic about contemporary art. More than fifty galleries will be participating in this exhibition that helps many young talented art newcomers to establish themselves in the fast changing art environment.
Also, the Festival de Tardor opens its gates from 3rd October until the beginning of December. For this quite long period of time, visitors can enjoy a wide range of quality programs such as theatre, circus performances, musicals, family friendly shows, workshops, conferences and performances of music and dance.
You need more action? No problem. On 6th October you can conquer your weaker self when participating at one of Spain’s most popular triathlons, the Garmin Barcelona Triathlon. Besides exercising you also have the chance of exploring Barcelona’s Sant Marti neighbourhood and the spectacular beach promenades which will be the main spots of the triathlon.
And of course Barcelona provides a solution in order to regain all calories that have been burned at the triathlon.
Towards the end of the month (18.10.-20.10.2013) you should definitely taste all culinary specialties at the Mercat de Mercats Festival. This unique food fiesta in the centre of Barcelona invites tourists as well as locals to get some insights into the Catalan cuisine and to get spoiled with some fine food, cava and wine. Numerous market stalls, local producers, cellars, bars and restaurants are participating and provide expert knowledge, talks and workshops.Last but surely not least, I would like to mention the beginning of Barcelona’s Jazz Festival on 19th October. It is one of Europe’s leading jazz events with world class performances in more than fifty concerts.
Enjoy!
