Barcelona’s Anella Olimpica (the Olympic Ring) has been constructed for the 1992 Olympic Games.
Auf dem Areal am Montjuic wurde bereits vor mehr als 60 Jahren die Estadi Lluis Companys für die Weltausstellung 1929 gebaut.
Für die Olympischen Spiele wurde das Stadion auf 65.000 Plätze erweitert und diente als Austragungsort für die Eröffnungs- und Schlussfeier sowie die Leichtathletikwettbewerbe.
Apart from the Olympic stadium, the Anella Olimpica consists of the Palau Sant Jordi for up to 17,000 spectators at indoor events and the two separate swimming stadiums of the Piscines Bernat Picornell and the Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc.
The Olympic Stadium was used by Barcelona’s second football club Espanyol until 2009, when the team moved to their new home ground in Cornella el Prat on the outskirts of the city. Currently, it is just used for special events like the 2010 European Athletics Championship.

Anella Olimpica’s two swimming pools are publicly accessible today. The Piscina Municipal de Montjuic is just open in summer though. But it has come to world fame since Kylie Minogue used it as the setting for the video of her song “Slow” in 2003. It is worth being included in a stroll along the Anella Olimpica alone for its incredible views of the city.
Das markanteste Wahrzeichen ist aber wohl die elegante Antenne des Torre Telefonica auf der Plaza Europa, direkt unterhalb des Stadions. Sie wurde zusammen mit dem Torre Collserola auf dem Tibidabo für die weltweite Übertragung der Olympischen Spiele gebaut.
Das von Santiago Calatrava entworfene futuristische, schlanke Bauwerk hat sich schnell als eine der Ikonen Barcelonas etabliert.
Wie erreicht man die Anella Olimpica?
Mit der Metro nehmen Sie die grüne Linie L3 bis zur Haltestelle Parallel und steigen dort in die Seilbahn (im Metro-Ticket enthalten) nach Montjuic und zur Anella Olimpica um. Sie kommen direkt neben der Piscina Municipal de Montjuic an. Von hier aus sind es nur 10 Minuten Fußweg bis zum Olympiastadion.
Wenn Sie die Barcelona Bus TuristicSie fahren durch die gesamte Anella Olimpica und können an mehreren Stellen auf dem Montjuic ein- und aussteigen.
