Casa Batiló Guided Tour

Casa Batiló is not just a building, but also an artistic legend; a calm sea is reflected by an outstanding façade. Opening the curtain of this façade reveals a world of architectural details and other attractive elements.

Barceloneta is a fabulous neighbourhood full of charm and the lovely smell of the sea.

A short drive from Barceloneta is the Port Vell, Plaza (square) de Colon with its famous Columbus monument, indicating which way he sailed to discover the Americas.

The monument is also the beginning of the famous Ramblas of Barcelona.
This visit continues with a drive up Montjuic Mountain, where we will make a short stop in Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys.

The climb continues up to Montjuic Castle, where you will enjoy a cable car ride offering panoramic views of the city.

The bus will pick you up at the last station and we will continue our Montjuic visit passing by the sports facilities built for the 1992 Olympic Games: the Lluis Companys stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi, the Olympic swimming pool Picornell until we get to the Spanish Village.

We will visit this charming place where you will admire a collection of traditional buildings from all over Spain, and a demonstration of the handcrafts made in this country.

After the visit of the Spanish village, we have completed the tour of Montjuic Mountain; it is time to head over to the city center.

As in all travels through Barcelona, the drive back to the city center provides stunning views of landmarks and architecture. Admire the Venetian Towers, the Montjuic fountains, the MNAC and the CC, “Las Arenas” rebuilt over the ancient “Plaza de Toros” (bullrings).

Our destination is Plaza de Cataluña, the starting point of the guided walking tour of the old city centre.

An experienced professional guide will take you to the Ramblas, Cathedral Square, through the narrow street of the Gothic quarter and to plaza Sant Jaume where the City hall is located as well as the headquarters of the Catalonian government.

La Rambla Start
You can see where the famous Ramblas starts. Enjoy this vibrant walking street!

Our tour finishes at the Plaza de Cataluña, in front of the Hard Rock Café (where you will have lunch if this option is chosen). This location is ten minutes to our office on foot. After a delectable and mouth watering lunch, check in at Balmes 5 at 15:15. The second part of the tour will start at 15:30.

Barcelona is known as the capital of Modernism and the place where the famous architect Antoni Gaudí worked and lived.

Gaudi, one of the greatest innovators of his time, has left behind numerous treasures for the discerning tourist to discover in Barcelona.

This Artistic Tour of Barcelona starts at the Carrer Balmes 5. We will take you to the Sagrada Familia Basilica, Gaudi’s unfinished masterpiece that is Barcelona’s most famous landmark.

The guide will take you on a walking tour of the exterior of the Sagrada Familia, to admire the richly and symbolically decorated facades, where vaults reach up to seventy meters.

Next you will discover Gaudi’s bizarre Park Güell, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Our tour continues to Passeig de Gràcia to see Gaudi’s famous apartment buildings like Casa Batlló, Casa Mila “La Pedrera” and other modernist buildings.

The tour ends near the Casa Milà “la Pedrera” at c/ Provença 261-265.

We will take you to the sea where you will be able to admire the intense changes the city underwent with the infrastructure development and organization of the Olympic Games in 1992.

You will drive by the Arc de Triomf, Ciutadella Park, the Olympic Village, the Olympic Port, the beach and the fisherman’s quarter, called Barceloneta, the Port Vell, Plaza (square) de Colon with its famous Columbus monument, indicating which way he sailed to discover the Americas.

As you look past the Columbus Statue, you will see the beginning of Las Ramblas, a famous street in Barcelona.

We will continue the visit as we climb up Montjuic where we will make a short stop in Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys. After observing the stadium, we will admire the Montjuic Castle. Get ready to glide in a cable car on the way down as you gaze out at the panoramic views.

The bus will pick you up at the last station and we will continue our Montjuic visit passing by the sports facilities built for the 1992 Olympic Games: the Lluis Companys stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi and the Olympic swimming pool Picornell.

Montjuic 2
More beauty lies ahead at the top of Montjuic.

After our thorough and fascinating visit of Montjuic, we will make our way back to the city centre. During the drive back to the city, admire the Venetian Towers, the Montjuic fountains, the MNAC and the CC, “Las Arenas” rebuilt over the ancient “Plaza de Toros” (bullrings).

One of the wonderful attributes of Barcelona is that with every drive, walk, etc. there is never a dull moment. This city is truly jam packed with gorgeous scenery.

We will arrive at the Plaza de Cataluña, the starting point of the guided walking tour of the old city centre.

The guide leads the way to the Cathedral Square, through the narrow street of the Gothic quarter and to plaza Sant Jaume where the City hall is located as well as the headquarters of the Catalonian government.

Our tour finishes at the Plaza de Cataluña, in front of the Hard Rock Café. This is about a 10-minute walk from our office.

A comfortable Bus will take you to the mountain of Montserrat, a jagged mountain climbing up 4,051 feet (1,236 meters).

The rocks of Montserrat were formed by natural cement of sand during the centuries. The wind and rain shaped the mountain with strange and varied forms.

Creative imaginations see human or animal shape in some of these peaks, giving those names and inventing legends to explain their fantastic origins.

Montserrat Awesome
Montserrat’s jagged mountains are jaw-dropping.

This trip to Montserrat will give you the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful and breathtaking views of the Montserrat Mountain, one of nature’s special creations amongst tranquility and beauty.

You will go up to Montserrat with the Cog-Wheel Train. This will drop you in the middle of the Monastery. It is a 15-minute trip with a privileged and spectacular view of the mountain.

The train has panoramic windows, making the actual journey a delight for the senses. The train is air-conditioned as well as wheelchair-friendly.

You will visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous 12th century Romanesque carving of Verge Moreneta (the Black Madonna). This famous statue of the Black Madonna is visible from a distance.

The Benedict sanctuary of Montserrat has been founded in 1025 and provides a mystical backdrop for the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia, who is enshrined in the monastery’s Royal Basilica.

The little monastery soon began to receive pilgrims and visitors who spread the word of the miracles and wonders performed by the Virgin. Word of mouth led to more and more pilgrims visiting Montserrat.

Today, Montserrat has been modernized to continue attending to the needs to pilgrims, one thousand years after it was originally founded.

You will be given free time to visit the audiovisual exhibition about the history and creation of Montserrat and taste typical liquors of Montserrat, handmade by the monks of the monastery (both activities are included).

Monastary
The Montserrat Monastery is as beautiful as it is fascinating.

6. General Tips, Recommendations and Advice

While Barcelona has a warm, balmy climate it is still adjacent to the sea, which means weather can sometimes be unpredictable. When it does rain, it rains in full tropical style. Although it is unlikely, we recommend having a layer or two just in case. If it is the summer, you have much less to worry about.

If you are doing a tour that includes Montserrat Mountain, definitely bring layers regardless of the season. The weather on the mountain tends to change swiftly.

Wear sunscreen! The sun in Barcelona is strong. Even if you are enjoying a lovely sea breeze, the sun can still burn your skin. It is best to be cautious and not battle a painful sunburn!

Beautiful Barcelona
Beautiful Barcelona awaits!

Wear comfortable shoes. Barcelona is an old city full of charming cobble stoned streets and lovely historic districts. Comfortable shoes are essential for the walking tours offered on this list. On the Montserrat tour, you will be walking on a mountain. Sneakers are a great choice.

Make a “must see” list for your trip. This list will help you navigate our article, as many tours are offered and it can be hard to narrow down which ones you are most interested in.

In addition to your “must see” list, try to have an open mind for tours and landmarks that weren’t on your radar. Sometimes the most memorable experiences happen out of spontaneity and an open mind.
