Theatre Museum of Salvador Dali

The theatre museum of Salvador Dalí in Figueres is considered as the largest collection of surrealist art in the world.

teatro museo dali figueres exterior It not only contains pieces of Dalí himself but also from contemporaries like El Greco, Modest Urgell and many others. Together with Dalí's house of birth in Portlligat near Cadaqués and the Gala Dalí Castle in Púbol, the museum forms the Dalí triangle in the north of Catalunya.

It was opened in 1974 by Salvador Dalí himself.

He bought the theatre of Figueres, which had almost completely been destroyed during the Spanish civil war, and dedicated more than 10 years to the works of rebuilding it.

Today around 1,500 pieces of art are shown here from paintings and drawings to sculptures. In the same building but accessibale through a different entrance, the Dalí gallery holds a collection of unique gold jewels.

Since his death in 1989, the grave of Salvador Dalí can also be visited in the crypt at the basement of the museum.
