Sitges Beaches

The reason why most day tourists from Barcelona come here is undoubtedly Sitges Beaches and the inviting promenade. Actually, the center of Sitges consists of around 15 beaches. The most remarkable ones are:

  • Aiguadolç Beach: It is situated just east of Sitges marina, the Puerto Deportivo de Aiguadolç. With a length of 145 metres and a width of around 20 metros it is fairly small. But since it is about a half an hour walk from the centre it usually does not get to crowded.
 
  • sitges-beachBalmins Beach: This beach is formed by three small bays. It is located between the centre and the Puerto Deportivo de Aiguadolç. The beaches of the three bays have got a total length of 240 metres and they are about 20 metres wide. It is accessible for handicapped people. This is the unofficial nudist beach of Sitges.
  • San Sebastián Beach: This urban beach is situated in the old fishermen's suburb of San Sebastian. It is a family beach that is popular among the inhabitants of Sitges and it is accessible for handicapped people as well. San Sebastián Beach has got a length of 205 metres at an average width of 20 metres.
 
  • sitges-iglesiaFragata Beach: Just below the church of Sant Bartomeu y Santa Tecla, this is a sports beach popular among young people. The beach is only 90 metres long but thanks to its width of 35 metres, there are beach volleyball nets and a pitch for beach football. On Fragata Beach you will not find any sunbeds or sunshades for rent.
 
  • Ribera Beach: This is one of the most popular and cosmopolitan beaches thanks to its location in the town center. The length of Ribera Beach is 260 metres at a width 36 metres. It is accessible for handicapped people.
 
  • Barra Beach: Barra Beach is 390 metres long and 25 metres wide. Its distinctive feature are 4 artificial islands that have been set up to protect the sand from erosion. This beach is accessible for handicapped people as well.

Sitges Beaches – Facts

Water quality: The waters are clean and clear. Visibility under water is much better than on Barcelona's city beaches. Waves: Since the shore is very shallow, the waves tend to break some 50 metres before hitting the beach. Southerly winds create a nice surf. Showers:Yes, all Sitges beaches dispose of fresh water outdoor showers to wash off the salt. However, the use of shampoo is forbidden since the water flows back to the sea unfiltered.

How to get to Sitges?

From Barcelona's Sants station or Passeig de Gracia station take Renfe train no. R2 to Sitges. From the train station it is a pleasant 10-minute walk down hill to the beaches.
